Walking tour about World War II with an exclusive visit to the German headquarters beneath Oslo Handelsgymnasium.
Oslo Guidebureau, in collaboration with Oslo Handelsgymnasium, offers unique walking tours that provide insight into Norway’s history during World War II. One of the most fascinating stops is the Wehrmacht bunker beneath Oslo Handelsgymnasium. During the war, the school was converted into the headquarters for the German military forces in Norway. As part of the occupation regime’s measures, a solid bunker was built under the schoolyard, serving as a command center throughout the entire occupation from 1940 to 1945.
The walking tour starts at the iconic statue of Winston Churchill at Solli Plass, a symbol of resistance against the Nazis, and takes participants on a journey through Oslo’s historic streets. The tour concludes at Karl Johans gate, the main artery of Norway’s capital, but not before participants get to experience the historic bunker.
Today, the bunker houses a modern and compelling exhibition on the history of the occupation. The exhibition highlights the fight for democracy both during the occupation and in our time, offering a unique opportunity to reflect on the challenges and values that shaped society then and now.
This walking tour is a perfect combination of history, reflection, and discovery – an experience that stimulates both thoughts and emotions. Whether you are a history enthusiast, a local, or a tourist, this is a tour you don’t want to miss.
