Oslo – City of Peace- Past, Present and Future

We begin at Eidsvolls Plass, outside the Norwegian Parliament, where Norway’s peaceful political journey began. Walking along Karl Johans gate, we pass the University of Oslo, where the first Nobel Peace Prizes were awarded in the early 20th century.

Continuing to the Royal Palace, we discuss the role of the monarchy during WWII and today’s diplomatic legacy, before arriving at the Nobel Institute, where the Peace Prize laureates are still chosen.

We then descend – literally and metaphorically – into history, with a guided visit to a WWII bunker under Oslo Handelsgymnasium, a stark reminder of Norway’s wartime struggles and the high cost of peace.

Back above ground, we walk through Victoria Terrasse, a site once used by the Gestapo, now transformed into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – a powerful symbol of change.

Finally, we pass monuments to Kings Haakon VII and Olav V, who embody the values of resilience, unity, and moral leadership. The tour concludes at the Nobel Peace Center, where stories of global peace efforts come to life.

“Peace does not mean just putting an end to violence or war, but to all other factors that threaten peace, such as discrimination, inequality and poverty.”

— Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Kailash Satyarthi
